Wedding Ring Trivia

Wedding rings are worn on the left hand, on the 3rd finger. Why?

(a) Because most people are right-handed and so this prevented rings from getting damaged less during activity.

(b) Because the custom was for men to walk on the right side of women (as protectors against such things as mud splashes from street cars etc.). So, the woman needed to use her right arm to circle his left arm. If a ring was on the right hand, it would snag his clothing.

(c) Because the belief was that… there was a vein that ran down that finger directly to the heart. Therefore it symbolized heartfelt love and devotion.
